Frequency Effects on Sound Localization
A study measured sound localization accuracy at different frequencies. When sounds came from directly ahead (0°), accuracy was 98% across all frequencies. However, for sounds 45° to the right, accuracy varied: 250 Hz: 75%, 1000 Hz: 85%, 4000 Hz: 92%, 8000 Hz: 95%. Which auditory localization mechanism best explains this pattern?
